Mini-golf! Geocaching! Animal parks! Swimming! Try them all in winter!

Ready to wash off winters cold and get amped up for spring? Check out this article from PopCity!

Tis the season after the season.

This one is the season when my family prepares to ward off the cabin fever epidemic that strikes every year in Pittsburgh. When winter’s cold, or cold rain, sets in I pine for the days when I could shoo my three boys out the door to frolic in the warm summer sun. Indoor arts and crafts projects keep some kids entertained for a while, but when you see them writing “all work and no play...” over and over again with their neon-colored markers, it’s time to get out.

But what do you do with kids outdoors, in Pittsburgh, in winter? Besides sledding, of course.

We look for things that other families only do in summer. Miniature golf courses are often packed in summer at the beach and most local courses are hibernating for the winter. Robert Morris University Island Sports Center offers mini-golf year round, with great views of the Ohio River. My kids love golfing and barge-watching at the same time. When they're done playing outside but not ready to go home, we head inside the Dome and continue to hone their skills with a bucket of 35 balls for $4.50. Even my 2-year-old can borrow a club and practice on the putting green and sand trap.

Need More Space?

Running a little low on space, or feeling like your closet is cluttered? We have a quick fix for it!

RealSimple writes:

Kim Craig, 26, admits that her closet, with its mateless shoes and skirtless suit jackets, was the source of her chronic tardiness. "I'm a single mom, but you'd think three people had their clothes in there," says the public relations account executive.

Small handbags and silky sleeveless tops fallen from their hangers would disappear into a black hole of broken stilettos and shopping bags, never to be seen again.

Snowboarders, skiers ride it all at Seven Springs urban terrain park

With only 6 more weeks of winter (according to the groundhog) you'll want to get in all the winter activities around the 'Burgh you can!

Snowboarder Mike Abriola was sitting at a simulated, open-sided bus shelter in Seven Springs newest terrain park when a skier hopped up on the bench on the other side, slid across it and scooted away.
"This place is a lot of fun," said Abriola, 19, of Monroeville, referring to The Streets, a walk-up site Seven Springs considers to be "the world's first urban terrain park" at a four-season resort.
Abriola, an architectural engineering student at Penn State University, pointed to the 26 features in the park -- objects that snowboarders can ride on, under or over -- and praised those who designed, built and installed them.
"The guys who made all this are so good at what they do," he said. "The park crew here is really amazing."
